Wednesday October 24, 6pm-7pm: The Writer’ with Ryan O’Neill

Wednesday October 24, 6pm-7pm:
Newtown Library, 8/10 Brown Street Newtown NSW

What’s in store for the future of the short story? How can you play with form and style to create something vivid and different? We’ll look at some great Australian short stories and what we can take from them.

Ryan O’Neill was born in Glasgow in 1975 and now lives in Newcastle, where he teaches creative writing. His fiction has appeared in The Best Australian Stories, The Sleepers Almanac, Meanjin, New Australian Stories, Wet Ink, Etchings and Westerly. He is known for his innovative approach and style, reflected in his debut collection of short stories The Weight of a Human Heart, published by Black Inc. The Sydney Morning Herald wrote that the book “delights in scuffing the conventions of short fiction”.

Ryan will be in conversation with a Library of Unwritten Stories participant. As well as developing your writing, at the Library of Unwritten Stories we also want to give you the opportunity to experience other parts of the writing life, which includes interviewing skills in front of an audience.

Upcoming: Wednesday October 31: Writing Group Workshop : Writing Challenge Set by Ryan O’Neill

About The Library of Unwritten Stories

The NSW Writers’ Centre and the City of Sydney Libraries are teaming to present The Library of Unwritten Stories, a dynamic new program for young writers aged under 30 with a chance to establish a new writers’ group. The importance of Writers’ Groups – small meeting where writers can read and comment on each other’s work – is often underestimated. This will be a chance for young writers to meet each other, explore the potential for collaborative projects, be mentored by industry professionals and develop their own work.

Free for members of the City of Sydney Library and the NSW Writers' Centre.
NSW Writers’ Centre membership is $75 for individuals and $55 for concessions and includes a range of benefits.
Library membership is free of charge for City of Sydney Residents and Ratepayers, or $15 for non-residents.
